Dry skin is a fairly common skin condition. It causes tightness, redness, sometimes a crocodile skin effect, and feelings of discomfort. How can you treat dry skin daily, naturally but effectively?
HOW TO RECOGNIZE DRY SKIN?
Dry skin is easy to identify. Its pores are barely visible, if at all, and it presents areas of dryness on different parts of the face. In the case of very dry skin on the face, additional symptoms may appear, such as rough skin and fine dehydration lines.
All this is because your epidermis works in slow motion, and retains the elements that are essential to its suppleness. With the hydrolipidic film altered, the skin no longer has its shield against external aggression. What’s more, it becomes dehydrated because it can no longer retain water, and lacks lipids due to insufficient sebum. The result is dry, dehydrated skin.
WHAT CAUSES CUTANEOUS DRYNESS?
Dry skin on the face can be caused by several factors:
- External aggressors such as cold, wind, sun, and pollution, greatly weaken the epidermis. The face is the least protected part of the body, and therefore the most exposed to aggression, which explains why it is one of the areas most affected by cutaneous dryness.
- Natural aging of the skin: as we age, collagen fibers, elastin, and hyaluronic acid are much less produced and present in the body. The epidermis becomes thinner and more fragile.
- A poor skincare routine: very dry skin on the face can be caused by inappropriate skin care. For example, if you exfoliate too often, or use irritating products that cause skin dryness.
- A deficient diet: the food you eat must provide your body and epidermis with all the nutrients they need to function properly. If you don’t get enough vitamin A, trace elements, and fatty acids from your diet, you’ll feel the effects on your skin.
HOW CAN YOU DEEPLY NOURISH VERY DRY SKIN?
As well as ensuring an adequate supply of water, it’s essential to help dry or very dry skin regain its moisture and nutrition. As part of an adapted routine, the rule is to use gentle, non-chemical products to avoid irritation. To apply them, simply effleurage the skin. Dry skin requires special precautions to avoid making it even more fragile.
GENTLE SKIN CLEANSING
As always, the treatment of very dry skin begins with a good cleansing. After all, cleanliness is the basis of healthy skin, which is better able to defend itself and absorb moisturizers optimally. To achieve this, make-up removal and cleansing must not be forgotten or carried out incorrectly. If you keep wearing make-up, your skin can’t breathe properly. Thorough cleansing and make-up removal is a multi-step process.
First of all, you need to apply an oily solution to dry facial skin, to remove the make-up and grease that have built up on the skin during the day. What’s more, it’s very pleasant to use, leaving skin soft, supple, and without any greasy film.
The next step is to apply a cleansing gel to deeply cleanse your skin after make-up removal. It eliminates the last residues and perfectly clears the pores. Your skin is purified.
Finally, floral water completes the cleansing of your skin, eliminating the limescale residues present in tap water. It also soothes irritated skin, leaving it radiant and fresh.
DEEP HYDRATION FOR DRY FACIAL SKIN
It’s only once your dry skin has been properly cleansed that it needs to be nourished more than any other skin. It’s therefore essential to choose a product with strong nourishing and moisturizing properties.
Vegetable oils are your allies!
Known for their beneficial properties, vegetable oils are the best allies for dry skin. They are concentrated in active ingredients and vitamins, and rich in moisturizing fatty acids (omega 3, 6, and 9). The great strength of vegetable oils is that they are highly compatible with our skin. They penetrate deep into the epidermis, ensuring cellular cohesion. They also help preserve the skin’s hydrolipidic film, promising softness, elasticity, nutrition, and protection for your face.
For in-depth nourishment of your dry, shine-free skin, we recommend choosing a rich cream that combines the benefits of these plant oils.
Muesli Cream
Enriched with sesame oil, shea butter, coconut oil, linseed oil, oat oil, cocoa butter, and rose hip oil, muesli cream provides your skin with all the nourishment it needs. It acts like a genuine cold cream. In keeping with the virtues of nature, 100% of its ingredients are of natural origin. This cocktail of oils concentrates nutritive, moisturizing, regenerating, antioxidant, soothing, softening, and anti-aging properties. So, ready to adopt it?)
Bed and Breakfast skin care oil
Made from 12 organic virgin plant oils, including prickly pear, evening primrose, borage, coconut, sweet almond, linseed, and hazelnut oils… This treatment intensely nourishes dry to very dry and mature skin and helps regenerate your skin. Day after day, your complexion regains its radiance, suppleness, and elasticity. If you’re worried about the oil being too rich and leaving your face with an oily finish, don’t panic! Bed and Breakfast skincare oil is made up mainly of dry oils (such as hazelnut oil), which means a less oily finish on the face. For better absorption of the oil, we recommend spraying on a little organic rose water and applying the treatment directly without absorbing the flower and fruit water.
The best skincare is in nature, which is why at Akane we prefer unprocessed, healthy, natural products.
GENTLE EXFOLIATION
It’s essential to remove dead skin cells, as they prevent the skin from oxygenating properly. Dead cells also limit the effects of skin care products and delay cell renewal. For this reason, scrubs, peels, and masks are the ideal solution. They should be used sparingly, so as not to further irritate your dry skin. It’s all a question of dosage. For example, if you use a moisturizing mask, don’t follow it up with a scrub during the week. You should also opt for minimalist compositions, with no chemical ingredients, silicones, or drying agents.
We recommend the use of aloe vera, which gently exfoliates and moisturizes the skin. It is not a substitute for a nourishing cream, as exfoliating the skin with aloe vera can sometimes lead to flaking.
HOW TO APPLY MAKEUP TO DRY SKIN?
a face with dry skin needs very good moisturizing before applying make-up. To limit the damage, you need to increase the time you spend moisturizing. We recommend massaging in a nourishing treatment for at least 5 minutes before applying make-up.
When it comes to choosing your make-up, opt for products with the most natural composition possible. Mineral powders can be a good option if your dry skin doesn’t peel too much.
But if your skin is really dry, with patches and flaking, it’s best not to wear makeup until it’s been cared for and renewed with a nourishing skin care product.
You now have all the keys you need to improve the condition of your dry skin, by providing it with all the moisture it needs. In the long term, a good skin routine will help reduce tightness and dry patches, and restore your skin’s natural radiance.
